TikTok Story Views: What Counts as a View and Who Can See It?
Published
Updated
TikTok story views tell a creator how many times a story was opened during its 24 hours online. Next to the number, the creator sees a list of the accounts that watched while signed in to TikTok. Other people never see that list, and the app does not show them the view count of someone else’s story. To read the views and likes of any public story, you can use the TikTok Story Viewer from CheckProfiles.
How to see who viewed your own TikTok story
Open your story while it is still live and tap the viewer count at the bottom of the screen. TikTok shows the total number of views and, below it, the names of the accounts that watched. Only you can see this list, and only while the story is online.
Why the view count and the viewer list don’t always match
The number and the names are often different. TikTok has not published its exact counting rules, but two things explain most gaps: the total can include repeat views, while the list shows each account once, and it can include views that are not tied to a visible account. Someone who opens your story without being signed in, for example through a viewer tool, adds to what other tools can read but never appears by name. Our guide on watching TikTok stories anonymously explains this in detail.
How to check the views of someone else’s story
The TikTok app hides these numbers on other people’s stories. CheckProfiles reads them from TikTok’s public data instead:
- Open the TikTok Story Viewer.
- Type the username or paste the profile link.
- Press Analyze account and open a story.
For each public story you see the views, likes, comments, shares and saves at the moment of your check. You never see who the viewers are: those names stay private to the creator.
What is a good number of story views?
There is no official benchmark. Stories mostly reach people who already follow you, so a practical habit is to compare each story with your follower count and with your own average. A story that beats your average tells you the topic or the format worked; a big drop often just means it was posted at a quiet hour.
How to get more views on your TikTok stories
- Post when your followers are usually online, which TikTok shows in your analytics.
- Open with something that moves in the first second, because people tap through stories fast.
- Use stickers, questions and sounds that invite a reaction.
- Keep stories regular, so followers learn to look for them.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see who viewed your TikTok story?
Yes. Open your story while it is live and tap the viewer count at the bottom: TikTok shows the total views and the accounts that watched while signed in. Only you can see this list.
Does watching a TikTok story twice count as two views?
TikTok has not published its exact rules. The total can include repeat views, but your name appears only once in the creator’s viewer list.
Can other people see how many views my story has?
Not in the TikTok app. Tools that read TikTok’s public data, such as CheckProfiles, can show the totals of public stories, but never the names of the viewers.
Can I still see my story viewers after 24 hours?
The viewer list is meant to be checked while the story is live. Once a story expires it disappears from your followers’ view, so check your viewers before the 24 hours are up.
