How Long Do TikTok Stories Last? What Happens After 24 Hours?

How long do TikTok stories last? Every TikTok story stays online for 24 hours, counted from the moment it is posted. When the time is up, TikTok removes it from the story ring of everyone who follows the account, and nobody can open it anymore. If you want to keep a story, yours or someone else’s public one, save it before it expires. The TikTok Story Viewer from CheckProfiles lets you watch and download any active public story by username.

How to see how much time a story has left

Each story shows how long ago it was posted at the top of the screen, for example “5h”. Subtract that from 24 and you know how long it stays online. A story posted at 9 pm disappears at 9 pm the next day, whatever your time zone.

What happens to a TikTok story after 24 hours?

• It disappears for your followers and for every visitor of your profile.
• The viewer list disappears with it, so check who watched while the story is live.
• Likes and comments stop, because nobody can open the story anymore.
• Stories don’t move to your video grid on their own. If you want the clip on your profile for good, post it as a normal video.

Can you see a TikTok story after it expires?

No. Once the 24 hours are over, the story is gone for viewers, and no website or app can bring it back. Tools that claim to show expired stories usually only show cached screenshots or ask for your login. That is also why our guide on watching TikTok stories anonymously recommends checking an account while its stories are still live.

How to delete a TikTok story before 24 hours

1. Open your profile and tap your story.
2. Tap the three dots (More) at the bottom right.
3. Choose Delete and confirm.

The story disappears right away for everyone, and its views and viewer list are removed with it.

How to keep a story before it disappears

For your own story, open it, tap the three dots and use Save video to store it on your phone. For someone else’s public story, open it in the TikTok Story Viewer and press Download: you get an MP4, a JPG or an MP3 in the original quality, without the creator being notified. Do it before the 24 hours run out, because nothing can be saved afterwards.
